At the dawn of the 20th century, breeders, under the leadership of the veterinarian Adolphe Reul, decided to improve the morphology of these dogs, which eventually gave birth to the four types of Belgian Shepherds. The year 1892 marked a turning point since the first standard was set on that date. The registration to the LOOF will be done nine years later.
